Bringing Language Learning to Life: Apply for ACTFL–Vista Classroom Micro-Grants

At Vista, we know the best world language classrooms inspire students to communicate meaningfully, connect with cultures, and engage as global citizens. That’s why we’re proud to partner with ACTFL to offer micro-grants that empower K–12 language educators to spark innovation and elevate student learning—all while supporting the national standards for world language education.

What’s the Opportunity?
Through this initiative, 100 micro-grants of $300 each will be awarded throughout the year to fund creative, standards-aligned projects designed by teachers like you4. Whether you envision hosting a culinary heritage tasting, inviting guest performers, curating authentic classroom libraries, or launching hands-on cultural experiences, these grants help bring language and literacy to life.

Applications are open to all K–12 language educators, regardless of setting or language taught. Projects should go beyond basic supplies, focusing instead on experiences or resources that:

  • Foster real-world communication
  • Deepen intercultural understanding
  • Encourage global and local connections
  • Support comparisons and creative thinking
  • Build school and community engagement

Apply for the 2024–2025 Micro-Grants!
The micro-grant application is intentionally straightforward. Key dates for this year’s three funding cycles are:

  • September 2–November 12 (awards announced November 18)
  • November 13–February 5 (awards announced February 10)
  • February 6–April 30 (awards announced May 5)4

If you’re not selected in one round, you can reapply for future cycles!

Celebrating Educator Creativity
Recent recipients have used their grant funds for:

  • Flamenco dance demonstrations bringing Spanish culture to the stage
  • Spanish-language libraries that represent a variety of heritages and reading levels
  • French food and fashion showcases, immersing students in Francophone cultures
  • Salsa and bachata lessons connecting language with movement and real-life experience
  • Hands-on projects with community organizations, bringing language off the page and into students’ lives

How to Apply
Applicants need to submit a brief proposal outlining their creative project and a simple, itemized budget. Recipients agree to share a brief video about their teaching inspiration and anticipated impact of their project—helping to build a vibrant community of language educators nationwide48.
