This spring, we offered a series of insightful webinars designed to support language programs and empower faculty with tools, ideas, and strategies for innovation. Each session focused on strengthening teaching practices, fostering student engagement, and preparing learners for real-world success.

We hosted three webinars:

Make Your Department’s Graduates Globally Competent!

In this session, we explored the concept of global competence and its importance in preparing students for success in a multicultural, interconnected world. Dennis Looney shared strategies language programs can use to naturally foster cultural understanding, effective cross-cultural communication, and workplace readiness. Attendees gained valuable insights and examples of how global competence is being integrated into language programs nationwide.

Empowering Language Programs: Advocating for Institutional Support

This webinar introduced the “Reflective Tool for Supporting Language Programs”, developed by JNCL-NCLIS with support from Vista Higher Learning. Dennis Looney walked participants through how to use this self-assessment resource to reflect on institutional support and identify actionable steps for strengthening language departments. Topics included faculty development, student engagement, institutional commitment, and strategic planning.

Fostering AI Literacy for Career Readiness in the Language Classroom

In this interactive session, we explored how language educators can prepare students to thrive in an AI-driven world. Kate Grovergrys introduced a practical framework to build AI literacy in the language classroom—focusing on ethical use, critical thinking, intercultural competence, and real-world skills. The webinar also addressed strategies for rethinking assessment while preserving the human connection at the heart of language learning.
