There’s rarely a lack of events going on in New York City. But for people who prefer peace and quiet, finding it can prove to be difficult. Luckily, Central Park is a wonderful place to go. Whether you’re looking to lie under the trees or you prefer to participate in one of the many organized events, this NYC hub offers residents and visitors plenty to do.
Go on a picnic
If you’re looking for something to do with friends or if you just want some quiet time alone, consider going to the park for a picnic. The best part? All you need is a blanket and food/snacks from home! This is a great activity for the spring, summer, and autumn months when the weather is lovely in the city. You can eat, read, write, draw, chat with friends, or even take a nap! Have we convinced you yet?
Stay active
If you’d rather stay active than lie down under the trees, Central Park is also the place to go. There are dozens of exercise classes offered to park visitors throughout the week. But if you’re more of a lone wolf, try going for a jog or taking up yoga!
Find the perfect spot to read
If you’re like us here at Vista Higher Learning, you probably love a good book and any chance to read—but sometimes it’s difficult to find some quiet time outside of the buzz. And it’s even harder to find fresh air that isn’t sabotaged by the smell of food, trash bins, and cigarettes. Well, Central Park is one of the best places to read in the city. It offers visitors shade under the trees, snacks, and peace and quiet—the perfect recipe for a great reading spot. If you’re in New York, pick up your current read and head on over! We’re sure you won’t regret it.
Get a bite to eat
If you’re looking to get a quick meal, consider checking out the food trucks that are located throughout the park. But if you’re not in a rush and wish to sit down, there are a couple of restaurants that offer plenty of options. Tavern on the Green, the Loeb Boathouse, and Le Pain Quotidien are some of the more popular eateries.
Enjoy the pop-up shops/events
We weren’t kidding when we said that Central Park offers hundreds of activities throughout the year. But apart from this, it also plays host to dozens of popup shops and events—such as the Strand popup shop and the summer carnival. If you’re ever unsure of what’s being offered, go to the park’s website, centralparknyc.org, or follow them on social media!
Zoo
Want to see animals? Did you know there is a zoo… INSIDE CENTRAL PARK? With only 6.5 acres of space, the zoo is considered one of the smaller ones in the state. Nonetheless, you can find penguins, sea lions, monkeys, and a petting zoo.
Concerts, readings, carnivals, and plenty more
If we haven’t convinced you yet, we’re sure this will. You may not be interested in yoga or picnics, but did you know that Central Park also hosts concerts, carnivals, author readings, and other similar events? Many of these are ticketed, but they’re definitely worth it. For details on what’s currently offered, go to centralparknyc.org or follow the park on social media!
